Artist Session Series is an open platform for artists to gather and discuss their work.
Artist Session Series is open to all community members at any stage of their creative career.
In this inclusive environment, artists benefit from a cross-generational “crit” experience that welcomes all levels of the conversation.
Artist Session Series is a timed format, typically 10 minutes per artist during a 2-hour session.
Artists are asked to bring one example (or a cohesive body) of recent work to present to the group.
All creative mediums are encouraged including (but not limited to) painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, installation, performance, sound, and digital creations.
Artists are expected to engage with their peers as part of this collaborative gathering.
Artist Session Series will meet monthly from March to July for the spring/summer period (with additional sessions in the fall season).
The sessions take place in the conference room on the second floor at The Arts Center of the Capital Region @ 265 River Street in Troy, NY.
Each session allows for a maximum of 12 participants at no cost.
The sessions are first-come, first-served through an open sign-up that will be announced a few weeks before each session date. The spring/summer schedule:
Taliesin Thomas, Ph.D. is an artist-philosopher, lecturer and writer based in Troy, NY. During her 30-year career in the art world she has worked in various capacities including the artist studio, museum, commercial gallery, artist residency, and art academy setting. Since 2007 she is the founding director of AW Asia and Art Issue Editions, Inc., two private art collections that serve as the basis for collaborations and curatorial projects with museums, institutions, and artists worldwide. She is a visiting critic for The Arts Center of the Capital Region and other regional institutions, including Bennington College, RPI, SUNY New Paltz, and SUNY Plattsburgh. Thomas has lectured widely on contemporary art and has published with Yale University Press, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, Chronogram, Dirt, ARTPULSE, Journal of Daoist Studies, Yishu: Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, and ArtAsiaPacific. Thomas studied studio art, aesthetic theory, and philosophy at Bennington College, Columbia University, and The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts.
