North Central Troy Creates

N. Central Troy Creates is a year-long community activation and placemaking project developed by the Arts Center as part of THE FISH MARKET, a larger initiative to engage with the North Central Troy Community.

N. Central Troy Creates hosted weekly drop-in art-making sessions, workshops, and events throughout the year to connect with the community and foster creative thinking and expression. 

This project was led by artists experienced in community engagement and creative development.  It is located at the newly renovated fish market building at 2952 6th Ave Troy, NY. 


The Artists of The Fish Market

D. Colin | January 2022 – Present

Originally from Bridgeport, Connecticut, D. Colin is a poet, actor, and visual artist living in Troy, NY.

D. Colin (she/her) is a Haitian American multidisciplinary artist with an educational background in English & Africana Studies. She is a self-published author, a dynamic performer, a self-taught painter & maker of pretty things that make bold statements. As a multidisciplinary artist, she aims to inspire, empower and educate through poetry, art and performance. In 2019, D. Colin was honored as Resourceful Woman of the Year in the Arts by YWCA-GCR and one of The Collaborative’s Creatives Under 40. She is also a Cave Canem, VONA and New York State Writers Institute fellow with degrees in English and Africana Studies.  Her mantra is Be inspired. Then inspire.

Meg Jala (she/her) is a multidisciplinary intuitive artist & storyteller who believes that art can open the eyes and hearts of us all. She is known for using strong imagery, staging, movement, and immersive storytelling that breaks down the fourth wall and opens communication lines for exploration. Meg has developed gallery performance-based experiential art through the lens of multimedia and has performed in a variety of productions, ranging from theatre to film. Meg premiered her show BODY: An Experiential Art Installation (as Meg Affonso) at the Albany Center Gallery in August 2020. Meg has studied various forms of dance throughout her life and has choreographed, produced & directed plays, films, and events. Meg has written two screenplays and a stage play and continues to be open to art in all of its forms. Meg’s mission is to tell stories that matter and to help others by introducing them to art as a multifaceted healing modality.

Launched in 2021, The Fish Market project space has become a creative hub for and by the surrounding community. Its latest program is N. Central Troy Creates.

It is a space where artists and the community can gather, and where the Arts Center can learn about our community’s needs and respond with long-term programming solutions, like N. Central Troy Creates.
