Familiars is a solo show of new work by Kate Wolford. Mystical and surreal, this body of work pursues themes of mythology, fantasy, nostalgia, animalia and self identity. Often blurring the lines between painting and sculpture, Wolford’s small-scale and intimate paintings feature intricate detail painted in egg tempera or acrylic on panel housed in unique hand built custom frames. Embracing memories of her childhood sense of wonder, Wolford depicts creatures and critters in dream-like settings and explores her own internal myth-making and memory.
