The Open Wall Project

The inaugural Open Wall Project artist is Pauline Saunders

March 3 – 28 2025

Pauline Saunders is a  passionate artist and entrepreneur dedicated to sustainable practices. With a background in Theology, she brings a unique perspective to her creative work. In 2017, she founded Evadneyline, specializing in upcycled denim accessories, most notably her signature memory bags crafted from repurposed jeans. In 2024, she expanded her artistic horizons to include denim art, continuing her commitment to eco-friendly upcycling. Guided by her belief that “all things are possible if you believe,” Saunders embraces the possibilities of transforming discarded materials into beautiful and functional art, inviting others to join her journey of creativity and sustainability.

The Open Wall Project

The Arts Center of the Capital Region introduces The Open Wall Project, a program that gives local artists a platform to display their work. This opportunity features a 20.5-foot wall located in the foyer of The Arts Center, offering a space for creative expression.

A Platform for Creative Expression
The Open Wall Project is a monthly rotating program that invites artists to share their work with the community. Each month, a new artist will use the wall to present their perspective, providing visitors with an ongoing connection to local art.

Why Participate?
– Visibility: Display your work where it will be seen by visitors to The Arts Center.
– Community Connection: Meet other artists, art supporters, and potential patrons.
– Professional Development: Gain experience and add a unique display to your portfolio.

How It Works
The Open Wall Project accepts submissions from artists of all backgrounds and disciplines through a rolling application process. Selected artists will install their work and share their vision with the community. Our goal in selecting artists to showcase their work is twofold: to honor the order of application submissions and to ensure that each exhibition reflects a variety of artistic mediums, styles, and themes throughout the year.

Submission Guidelines
– Installation: Artists are responsible for installing their work. Basic tools will be provided for use.
– Artwork: Submissions may include painting, photography, mixed media, or other visual art forms. Work must fit the 20.5-foot wall dimensions.
– Application: Include a brief artist statement, a description of your proposed work, and high-quality images of previous pieces.
