Description
In this five day intensive, you will be guided through a complete cycle, from throwing to finished pieces. You will be introduced to pottery design fundamentals and practices, the ergonomics of throwing on the wheel, making multiples and matching sets, trimming, additions and fittings, drying, and glazing. This course will cover basic handbuilding (pinching, coiling, rolling) besides throwing and also how to combine these various forms to create one of a kind, functional and sculptural pieces. Experiment with many types of textures, slip decorating, as well as painting with underglazes. The arts of applique, sgraffito, carving and open cut work will be demonstrated and practiced. Additionally, study of local potter’s works and what makes their works unique, will help you find your own voice in clay. For beginner, intermediate and/or advanced students.
