Public Art

is uplifting. is free for all to enjoy. beautifies the neighborhood. creates a sense of place. showcases local artists. attracts visitors to local businesses. shows the community that people care. inspires young artists. brings people together.

At The Arts Center of The Capital Region, we believe that art belongs to everyone.

Through our collaborative efforts with the community, we produce breathtaking public art that inspires and engages.

The Uniting Line is a multiphase project to transform 500 feet of road under the Hoosick Street Bridge – from an urban void that acts as a massive divider between downtown Troy and North Central Troy – into a space that draws people together, uniting what a highway divided.

Through creative placemaking, the project is unifying the area graphically, revitalizing and beautifying the corridor, encouraging more pedestrian activity, and serving as a backdrop to activities that take place at the adjacent basketball courts and other open spaces.

Location: The Hoosick Street Bridge underpass between River Street and 6th Avenue in Troy, NY.

SHAPESHIFT

by Adam Frelin

Shapeshift, 2021, by Adam Frelin, was an experimental piece developed in anticipation of our 2022 Troy Glow light festival. It was created for the River Street entrance to Waterfront Park. When viewed from River Street, this space—created by a gap between buildings—functioned like a stage with a controlled vantage point and backdrop, as well as a fourth wall created by the brick entryway.

LOCATION: A temporary light artwork created for the River Street entrance to Troy’s waterfront park.
